Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Update

As healthcare providers, we take our duty of care seriously. We are regularly updating our policies to ensure we are compliant with Public Health England guidelines, and going further in our cautious approach to ensure we can balance our role during this pandemic and our duty to our patients and staff during these uncertain times.
Following guidance from our regulatory bodies, we are now safely operating at a reduced service, prioritising patients with eye health or visual concerns. We are continuing to take calls, as we have been throughout the lock down, and will book appointments for patients where required. As you would expect, everything is a little different now, but we’re committed to making sure we provide our normal high-quality service and eye wear as efficiently as possible. Please see the details below on how we’re keeping you and our staff safe as we work through your visual needs.
As we are now operating on an appointment-only basis, please call first so we can arrange a time for you to come in. To minimise contact, our optometrist will do the first ‘talking’ part of the test by phone or video consultation, taking your history and symptoms before your face to face appointment.

Urgent & Essential Eye Care
We are prioritising patients with urgent and essential needs, including key workers with visual issues or anybody who has an eye health concern, broken glasses, or a change in vision. If you think you need to be seen as a priority, please let us know when you call.
Contact Lens Supply and Direct Debits
The General Optical Council has amended the requirements for contact lens checks and supply during the pandemic, to fall in line with social distancing requirements. In most cases, we will be performing contact lens consultations by telephone or video. If your clinician feels you need to be seen, an appointment will be arranged.

Safety in branch
We have taken substantial measures to ensure the safety of all patients and staff in practice.
Additional cleaning protocols and supplies
As you enter the practice, you will be asked to clean your hands using the provided sanitiser and, if you haven’t brought your own, will be provided with a face covering. All patients and visitors are being asked to do this, and all staff are cleaning their hands between dealing with each patient or each pair of spectacles. In addition to this, all our equipment and frames are sterilised after each use to prevent cross-contamination.
Isolation and appointments
We are asking all patients not to book their appointment if government advice indicates they should be self-isolating. This means we are asking any patients who have a new, persistent cough or a temperature/fever or loss/change in smell or taste not to come into the practice. If a patient does present with symptoms, we will have to turn them away. We are also asking customers not to attend if they have recently been in contact with someone who has symptoms. Our staff are also fully aware of the government advice and will self-isolate if they exhibit any symptoms. To check if you should be self-isolating, please use the online NHS 111 tool
Awareness and Information
All our staff are kept fully up to date with the latest advice, which they are able to pass on to patients. In addition to this, as recommended by Public Health England, we are displaying posters around the practice which remind patients and staff to wash their hands, socially distance and how to wash their hands, as well as the requirements for self-isolation.
